WhatsApp already has bold and italic
In chats, wrap words with *asterisks* for bold, _underscores_ for italic, and ~tildes~ for strikethrough. That formatting is real rich text. It stays readable, copies as normal letters, and does not depend on Unicode coverage.

When Unicode still wins
