Instagram line break generator

Keep blank lines in captions and bios with this Instagram line break generator: it adds an invisible U+2800, trims trailing spaces and counts to 150/2,200.

3 empty lines now hold an invisible U+2800. Trailing spaces removed from 1 line. 2,011 characters left for the caption (third-party figure).

How to use it

  1. Paste your caption or bio into the box and choose Bio, Caption or Comment.
  2. The tool trims trailing spaces and puts an invisible U+2800 on every empty line, then counts characters and hashtags.
  3. Press Copy and paste into Instagram. The blank lines stay where you put them.

Why Instagram removes your line breaks

Instagram treats a line with nothing on it as nothing at all, so a blank line between paragraphs is squashed when you post or save. A line that ends with a space can lose its break too, which is why line breaks collapse most often in text typed on a phone, where autocorrect often leaves a space before Return.

The workaround is to make the empty line not empty. U+2800, the Braille pattern blank, takes up space like a letter but shows nothing, so Instagram keeps the line. This tool adds one to each empty line and strips trailing spaces in a single step.

What the counter checks

The bio limit is 150 characters, from Instagram’s help center. Captions and comments are counted against 2,200, a third-party figure. Each U+2800 you add counts as one character, so the count you see is the count Instagram sees.

The hashtag check warns above five, the cap Instagram announced in December 2025 for posts and Reels.

  • Empty lines get one U+2800 each; a line that already has one is left alone.
  • Blank lines at the very start or end are removed rather than filled.
  • Your words, emojis and hashtags are not changed unless you press Bold or Italic.

Keep spacing light

Some screen readers announce U+2800 as “blank” or a Braille pattern. One blank line between sections is plenty; a ladder of spacer lines is noisy for listeners and costs characters you might want for words.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a line break in an Instagram caption?

Type your caption with the breaks you want, paste it here, and copy the result. Empty lines now hold an invisible U+2800 and trailing spaces are removed, so Instagram keeps the spacing.

Why do my Instagram line breaks disappear?

Because the empty line is truly empty, or a line ends in a space. Instagram squashes both. Filling empty lines with U+2800 and trimming trailing spaces fixes it.

Does the invisible character count toward the limit?

Yes, each U+2800 is one character. The counter includes them, so a 150-character bio with two spacer lines has 148 left for everything else.

Does this work for the Instagram bio too?

Yes. Choose Bio to count against the 150-character limit; the same fix keeps blank lines between bio sections.

Can I make some words bold?

Select words and press Bold or Italic. Hashtags, @mentions and links in the selection stay plain so they keep working. For many styles at once, use the Instagram font generator.
