Telegram name vs username vs bio vs messages
Telegram already formats message text for you. Styled Unicode is for the fields that have no formatting menu, and it must never go into the username.
| Field | Fancy fonts | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Profile name (first and last name) | Fancy fonts work | 64 per part | Accepts Unicode styles. First name is required, and each part has its own 64-character limit. |
| Username (@name) | Plain text only | 5 to 32 | Only a-z, 0-9 and underscores are allowed. Fancy letters never work here, and people find you through this plain handle. |
| Bio (About) | Fancy fonts work | 70 (140 with Premium) | Accepts Unicode. Styled letters use the same limit, so a short line is better than a long one. |
| Channel or group title | Fancy fonts work | Varies | Accepts Unicode. A readable title is easier to search, so keep the main word in plain letters if you want people to find it. |
| Messages | Fancy fonts work | Varies | Telegram has its own bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, spoiler and monospace options in the formatting menu. Use those for real formatting and Unicode for extra styles. |

How to use Telegram fonts
- Decide where the text will go. Use the formatting menu for a message, and use this generator for a name, channel title or bio.
- Type a short line, then pick a row. Sans bold, bold, italic and cursive are the safest choices on every device.
- Copy the row, then paste it into Settings, Edit profile, the name field, the bio box or a channel title, and save.
Where Unicode fonts help on Telegram
- Your profile name, so friends and groups notice you in a long chat list
- A channel or group title that should stand out in search and in the chat list
- The short bio line under your name
- A pinned message title or a caption where you want a style that the formatting menu does not offer
Telegram formatting or Unicode fonts: which one to use
Telegram can format a message without any help. Select the words, open the formatting menu, and choose bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, spoiler or monospace. That formatting is attached to the message, so it is the better choice for normal chats and posts.
A Unicode font is different. It swaps the letters themselves, so the style stays when you paste the text into a field that has no formatting menu. That is why Unicode is the right tool for a profile name, a channel title and a bio.
- Use the built-in menu for messages, posts and captions in Telegram.
- Use Unicode fonts for your name, bio and titles.
- Do not put fancy letters in your username. It accepts only plain characters, and a plain handle is what people type to find you.
Tips for a name that people can still find
Telegram search works on the characters in a name. If a contact types your name in plain letters, a fully styled name may not match it. For that reason it helps to keep one plain word in a channel title, or to put the styled version in the bio and keep the name simple.
Test your name in a chat on a second phone if you can. Styles from the mathematical block, such as bold, italic and script, show up on almost every current device, while some decorative styles may appear as empty boxes.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Telegram font generator?
It turns the text you type into Unicode styles, such as bold, italic and cursive, which you copy and paste into Telegram fields that have no formatting menu, for example your name, bio or channel title.
Does Telegram have its own text formatting?
Yes. In messages you can select text and apply bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, spoiler or monospace from the menu. Unicode fonts are for fields without that menu.
Can I use fancy fonts in my Telegram username?
No. A username allows only a-z, 0-9 and underscores, and it must be 5 to 32 characters long. Fancy letters work in your name, bio and titles.
How long can my Telegram bio be?
A bio is limited to 70 characters, and Telegram Premium raises it to 140. Styled letters count like any other character, so keep the line short.
Will my styled name show on every phone?
Bold, italic and script styles show on nearly all current phones. Rare decorative styles can appear as empty boxes on older devices, so test the result first.
Does a fancy name make me harder to find?
It can. Search compares characters, so a styled name may not match plain letters. Keep a plain word in a channel title or share your plain username.
